"After performing “Loud” at the mtvU Woodie Awards on Thursday night (March 15) as part of the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas, the Pittsburgh rapper announced that his new mixtape, Macadelic, will drop on March 23.
“Loud” is one of the records off the Macadeliccompilation, meaning fans at the Woodie Awards got a live taste for the project via Mac’s performance. In turn, Mac took home the Woodie of the Year Award due to his grassroots hustle.
“We’re a new generation, we’re about to change the world, we’re gonna start that today,” Mac told the crowd, before announcing Macadelic’s release date.
For Mac, the impending mixtape release comes after finishing last year off on a strong note. HisBlue Slide Park debut album, which was released in November of last year, hit No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart after selling 145,000 copies in its first week. The album spawned singles like, “Frick Park Market,” “Party on Fifth Ave.” and “Up All Night.”
This year, has gotten off to a hot start for Mac as well. In February, the 2011 XXL Freshman may have shocked fans by releasing “Dig That,” an unlikely collaboration with Harlem rhymeslinger Cam’ron. On the same day, Mac told XXLMag.com that he and Cam actually recorded four records and have talked about doing a project together.
“We wanna do some soulful hip-hop shit, while also making some hard shit and some fun music,” Mac told XXLMag.com about the proposed project’s direction with he and Killa Cam."
